Created by Emile BLETARD in 1923, the company established its head office in Liège-Belgium, and simultaneously opened its subsidiary in Rethel in the French Ardennes. Originally specialising in the import and distribution of components for TSF (wireless radio transmission), the company also provides various electromechanical items and capacitors, which became its main activity decades later. In 1927 the Rethel agency moved to Paris.

In 1936 the head office in Belgium closed and the field of activity then expanded to cover Belgium, Luxembourg and France in their totality. With suppliers from England, Germany, Netherlands and France, BLETARD immediately proved its European dimension ; it suffered only during the years of the war between 1939 and 1945, when only French suppliers were allowed to go through this difficult period.
At the end of war the company continued its expansion and added Italian companies to the existing numerous suppliers. Throughout the following years BLETARD succeeded through the amalgamation, closure and creation of companies in the changing world of the capacitors industry.

In 1979 BLETARD started its long and profitable collaboration with ICAR group, and thanks to it won a strong position in the French market. In 1994 Roger BLETARD, the son of the creator, sold the company to Mr. Burgevin who continued ensuring the efficient distribution of ICAR group’s products in the French market. In 2002 the ICAR group decided to buy the business, which became BLETARD COMPOSANTS the official sale subsidiary of ICAR CAPACITORS. Due to the strength of trademark ICAR, a large stock holding and putting in place very efficient logistics, BLETARD COMPOSANTS can be proud to have as customers (direct or indirect) most of the industrial companies in the field of lighting and a significant place in the field of electric motor capacitors.
